The difference

Old photomatics had tells.

The traditional photomatic was stock photos and Photoshop composites stitched into a slideshow. Cheap, generic, and obvious. The AI animatic is photoreal frames rendered from a hand-drawn board the studio drew first. Real-feeling performance. Broadcast-quality finish. Copyright-registered framework. Same testing job. Different category of result.

What it is
Stock photos and Photoshop composites stitched into a slideshow.
Photoreal AI frames rendered from hand-drawn boards.
Look
Stitched together. Tells. Reads as a comp, not a spot.
Broadcast quality. No tells. Reads as the spot.
Talent testing
Generic stock faces. Limited expression. Wrong demographics.
Real-feeling performance. Custom casting. Any look.
Variations
Each variation needs a new comp. Slow. Expensive.
Unlimited variations from the same hand-drawn frame.
Timeline
10–14 days.
8–10 days.
Copyright
Generic stock licensing. Reuse limits. Risk if it tests so well you want to ship it.
Registered framework. Owned outright. Test it. Ship it. Same asset.

Process

Four steps. Eight to ten days.

The same workflow that ships AI commercials, scaled to the testing job. Pencil first. AI second. Human-directed throughout.

01 · Sketch

Hand-drawn boards.

A storyboard artist draws every frame. Composition, performance, pacing — locked on paper before any AI runs. This is the legal author of the final work.

Day 1–2
02 · Render

AI photoreal.

Approved boards render in photoreal AI. Style locked. Talent custom-cast. Every frame referenced to the original sketch.

Day 3–6
03 · Motion

Editor takes over.

Timing, sound, music, voiceover. The animatic gets the same edit-room treatment as a finished spot.

Day 7–9
04 · Delivery

Tested. Documented.

Final cut in all formats. Plus the boards, generation logs, and Human Oversight Verification Certificate. Ready for focus groups or air.

Day 10
Frequently asked

The four questions buyers ask.

Can we use this as the final spot, not just a test? +

Yes. The AI animatic is built on the same workflow as the AI commercial — hand-drawn boards, photoreal AI render, copyright-registered framework. If it tests well and you want to ship it, the asset is broadcast-ready and owned outright. No reshoot. No relicensing. No legal gray area.

How does this compare to a real shoot? +

For testing purposes, the AI animatic delivers what a shoot delivers: real-feeling performance, custom-cast talent, broadcast-quality look. For about 15% of the cost. In about a quarter of the time. The trade-off is creative control on the day — a shoot lets you adjust performance live. The AI animatic locks the look at the board stage and renders against it.

What if we need revisions after delivery? +

Minor revisions — color, timing, voiceover swaps — turn around in 1–2 days. Larger creative changes that need new boards follow an abbreviated 5-day process. All revision work maintains the copyright-registered framework. Three rounds of revisions are included in standard scope.

How is this different from other AI photomatic vendors? +

Three differences. One — the studio has been making animatics for 28 years for Goodby, TBWA, Wieden, BBDO, and BBH. Pre-production isn't a side service. Two — the workflow is hand-drawn first. Other AI shops type prompts. The studio drafts boards. That's why the work has no AI tells. Three — the framework is copyright-registered. PAu 4-297-548. No other AI video studio has one.
