How we make each report.

Each issue covers one calendar month of public posts and comments about microdramas. We code every on-topic item against closed lists: AI stance, AI flaws, tropes, requests, quit reasons, money and platforms. A recoded sample checks agreement, and each issue states its limits and publishes the coded data.

Questions producers ask.

  • Is this report a survey of all microdrama viewers?

No. It is a listening study of public posts and comments, led by Reddit, not a representative survey. Each issue says which sources returned data that month and how many items each one supplied. Use it as directional evidence about language, friction and demand.

  • Who publishes the microdrama audience report, and how often?

Animatic Media publishes it once a month. Each issue covers one calendar month of public viewer posts and includes the coded data. Animatic Media also makes AI-finished vertical series. The report states that interest and includes viewer criticism of AI.

  • What is the difference between a microdrama, a vertical drama and a short drama?

They are names for the same format. A microdrama is a scripted series made for a vertical phone screen, with episodes of about one to three minutes. Trade press also uses vertical drama, vertical series, short drama and microseries. In China, the format is called duanju.
